Al-Baha Company for Caustic Soda and Chlorine industry Organizes a Specialized Workshop on Zero Liquid Discharge Technology

As part of the ongoing partnership between Al-Baha Company for Caustic soda and Chlorine industry and the Water Efficiency and conservation project (WEC), the company organized a specialized workshop on Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology. The workshop followed the implementation of Al-Baha’s ZLD project in June 2025, which was carried out under a grant provided by the WEC project and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Jordan.
The workshop featured a detailed presentation on ZLD technology and the operational stages of the treatment unit, in addition to organizing a site visit to Al-Baha’s ZLD plant. During the visit, participants were introduced to the stages of industrial wastewater treatment and its conversion into water suitable for industrial, agricultural, and human use.
The workshop witnessed broad participation from representatives of leading Jordanian industrial companies in the private sector, including: AlHikma Pharmaceuticals, Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, Manaseer Industrial Group, Jordan Bromine Company, Al-Qawafel Fertilizers Company, Al-Kaseeh for Food Industries, Siniora Food Industries Company, Swedish Jordanian Chemicals C. Ltd., Giant Industrial Group, Fine Hygienic Holding and Jordan Industrial Estates company. The event also included the participation of specialized water treatment companies, namely Arab Engineers Company, Munir Sukhtian Company, Al Safa for Water & Environmental Engineering Co and the Jordanian Chemical Company (the exclusive agent of Nalco in Jordan), in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Authority.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Engineer Abdullah Al-Gaood, Head of the Research and Development Department at Al-Baha Company for Caustic Soda and Chlorine industry, emphasized the company’s firm belief in the importance of aligning industrial growth with sustainability principles. He noted that the implementation of the ZLD unit has contributed to reducing freshwater consumption by recycling industrial wastewater generated from production processes and completely eliminating its discharge. He added that the project has achieved a tangible economic return by reducing the costs of purchasing freshwater and lowering industrial wastewater discharge fees, in addition to its positive impact on protecting national water resources.
